Hugo

Specializing in hair design and styling for over 20 years, Hugo’s passion for education and obsession for the craft is a valued asset.  Since graduating from Covina Beauty College in 1993, he has had the opportunity to be a Redken instructor for the past 12 years. His work has recently been featured in the global collection of Redken Shapes and Shadows as a part of their Inspiring World of Redken campaign. Hugo’s down to earth approachable teaching style makes his classes easy to understand.  He challenges himself and all stylists to utilize a different approach through focused hands-on training. This has led him to educating stylists and educators across the country, as well as internationally.

In 2002, Hugo started teaching Cutting Over the Top, an advanced cutting class at the Redken Exchange Academy in New York on Fifth Avenue.  The class is taught by Hugo every month and is designed to take hairdressers to a new level of finesse and creativity.  Beginning in 2003, Hugo has participated in fashion week for L.A. and N.Y.C.  In 2007 he collaborated Session Skills with Noah Hatton. Hugo was then able to share the ins and outs of the freelance editorial world with various stylists.  He persistently helps students with what to expect and how to utilize their foundational skills in the demanding and creative setting of a photo shoot. Hugo completed work on a hair cutting DVD with Salon Sessions in 2009.

Hugo has worked on major music videos for artists such as Britney Spears, Pharell, P. Diddy, Papa Roach, Keith Sweat and Gavin Degraw. His editorial work has appeared in Eliza, Town and Country, Teen Magazine, Brides, and LA Weekly. He has worked on the sets of Model Latina and America’s Next Top Model.  In 2010, Hugo worked in New York City as a member of Hairdressers Against AIDS to raise awareness. Hugo makes challenges in hairdressing easier for the learner with his alternative approach to hairdressing. Hugo’s commitment to artistry, great service, and education has taken him to the top of his game, and has led him to believe that we are capable of paving our own road as long as we are in love with our life’s work and believe in ourselves.
